It’s been just over a week since the WA State Election, and I’ve felt disappointment, frustration, uncertainty… and hope.
Hope wasn’t something I expected to feel, but let me explain.
Yes, WA Labor won again. But they also suffered huge swings against them, losing anywhere from 2.5% to 19.2% of their vote across the state. In politics, those numbers matter. It means people are fed up with how they’ve been running things, and fed up with being ignored.
For the last four years, WA Labor has governed with arrogance, making decisions without listening, ramming through party agendas and ignoring what’s best for the people. They got away with it in 2021 because they wiped out the opposition. But now, with voters turning against them, they can’t afford to keep ignoring us.
We Need to Keep the Pressure On
Let’s be clear—Labor hasn’t suddenly changed. But this shift in votes is something we can use to hold them accountable.
Now is not the time to switch off. Now is the time to pay attention.
How? By getting involved.
- Watch government policies closely—especially the ones that affect you directly.
- Sign petitions, complete surveys, and make submissions. Every voice adds pressure.
- Hold them to their promises—whether it’s $89 million in student support, increasing regional pensioner travel allowance, or planting 1 million trees in Perth by 2025, whatever the promise is hold them to it.
For me, I’ll be keeping an eye on:
- Agriculture policies and their impact on farmers and food security.
- The South Coast Marine Park process—making sure the government keeps its promise in having a marine park more famous than the Great Barrier Reef.
- Housing and cost of living policies—because words mean nothing if people are still struggling.
- Where government money is going—so regional WA isn’t left behind and we’re not paying more taxes.
The tide is turning, but only if we keep holding them accountable. Let’s make sure the WA Labor Government knows we are watching.
